January Playlist

I create monthly playlists and have for years. I use this as a place to dump all the songs I like in any particular month in one place, regardless of genre, emotion, anything of the sort. The only requirements for this playlist is my personal enjoyment. While I make tons and tons of playlists aside from this monthly playlist, this is the only recurring kind of playlist I make. I’ve decided to post this monthly playlist on here every month. I find great enjoyment in making these playlists, which I suspect is because of the lack of expectation or theme to follow. Especially now that I have started to make playlists for WRUV (the radio at UVM, there are a lot of rules to follow), I find it especially nice to just throw it all in one big pile with the understanding that I enjoy this compilation I have created, or at least I did at one point during said month.

In all creative endeavors (playlist making included lol), I have always found it the most fulfilling to give myself full mental freedom in creation, free from expectations, sometimes free from an end goal. This is, admittedly, easier said than done. With this in mind though, I must say that a strong belief of mine is that expectations are a killer of enjoyment, not only in creative projects but in life in general. Now, by saying this, I do not mean to discredit having goals or a strong backbone to guide your projects, decisions, and ideas. I am talking about expectations. Expecting something to look or sound a certain way, for it to go exactly as it did in your mind. You be disappointed at the worst and unsurprised as best. Perhaps I have just gotten my hopes up too many times and am jaded in this regard. Maybe I have made too many playlists that end up being two songs because I want them to fit this really specific feeling that is impossible to find other than the two songs already in the playlist. Yes, I fear that may be the case.

Anywho, please enjoy my monthly playlist. I continuously add songs through the month!
